Hope Care and Beyond (HCB), in partnership with local community leadership organizations and volunteers, operates community resource hubs known as International Friendship Centers (IFCs). These centers are vital community support services where refugee and immigrant families and individuals can access basic needs pantries for assistance with food, clothing, and essential housewares. This support is critically important during their initial arrival period, as they often face additional hurdles such as waiting for necessary documentation or arranging transportation logistics before they can begin work.
In addition to addressing food insecurity and other basic needs, immigrant and refugee families and individuals also have the opportunity to participate in quality-of-life building resources and classes. These include ESL classes in Michigan, citizenship training, cultural assimilation and diversity courses, occupational skills development, basic health care, and more—each serving as essential preparatory training for entering the workforce. We establish IFCs in communities where there is a recognized need, particularly where refugee and immigrant families and individuals reside.
Building community through fostering relationships is a core value that HCB holds closely. We understand that for our programming to thrive, it is essential for both native-born communities and international families to see themselves as allies in creating and nurturing their communities together. Consequently, our program model relies heavily on community engagement through volunteerism, which encourages local involvement from the communities that refugee and immigrant families and individuals call home.
HCB is committed to fostering an environment where immigrants, refugees, and the native-born view one another as partners in building stable, vibrant, and thriving communities, supported by effective refugee assistance programs.

As a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people in need, our objective is to provide community support services to disenfranchised refugee, immigrant, and minority communities in the U.S., particularly in the tri-county metro Detroit area of Michigan. Our quality-of-life programming, including ESL classes in Michigan, is specially selected for the unique needs of each community. Through our refugee assistance programs and initiatives, we strive to make a positive impact on the world and help those who need it the most.
